bookworm for a moment.

Like most people, there are certain types of books which interest me. It's like, when you are in a big book store like Borders or Kinokuniya, you're almost naturally drawn to those particular shelves where you can find your 'kind' of books. This is what I recently discovered for myself (in no order of ranking):

Top 5 words in the title of a (non-fiction) book which attacts me

  1. Mathematics
  2. Mechanical (Engineering)
  3. (Human) Anatomy
  4. Islam
  5. Running

The author would like to remind his readers that the above information is accurate at the time of publishing and is subjected to changes, years, weeks or even days down the road due to the simple reason that personal interests may vary with time.

driving, a different perspective.

I just hate to rush when I drive, especially when I'm driving to send someone on time. It's not only the pressure of getting that person there on time but also to do so safely.

Today I had to send my sister to her school at Stirling Road, Queenstown by 3 pm and she's adamant about entering the exam hall at the very last minute to avoid any peer pressure. By 2.29 pm, we were only just about to leave our house to be on the move. I knew I shouldn't, but I was speeding most of the journey. And I didn't want to. I'm not the sort who holds so much ego like many young drivers do these days. On a normal occasion, I would never speed. But this afternoon wasn't a normal occasion. I hate to do that. And I was going through words of prayers to God in my head to keep this journey smooth and safe. Alhamdulilah, it was.

These days, I've been thinking about the reality of driving in Singapore. With fuel prices in a seemingly uncontrollable upsurge, exorbitant parking fees and the introduction of new ERP gantries, it all boils down to money talk. I'm starting to feel the pinch, hard. Besides, I can't even start to imagine what the cost would be like should something happen to the car. Come to think of it, it would be so so much affordable if one chooses public transport instead.

These reflections made me feel a tinge of slight regret having spent so much on getting that Class 3 license, albeit its many other advantages.
