Probation's over!

One year has passed since I got my driving license, and it is about time that triangle plates be chucked away for good. :)

Just a thought: I don’t feel as enthusiastic over driving as I was a year ago, and that’s mainly because of my realization of the harsh reality of driving in Singapore. Drivers here are mostly selfish and inconsiderate, that is not an empty claim at all.

Nevertheless, here’s to clean record for the past year and for many years to come!

driving, a different perspective.

I just hate to rush when I drive, especially when I'm driving to send someone on time. It's not only the pressure of getting that person there on time but also to do so safely.

Today I had to send my sister to her school at Stirling Road, Queenstown by 3 pm and she's adamant about entering the exam hall at the very last minute to avoid any peer pressure. By 2.29 pm, we were only just about to leave our house to be on the move. I knew I shouldn't, but I was speeding most of the journey. And I didn't want to. I'm not the sort who holds so much ego like many young drivers do these days. On a normal occasion, I would never speed. But this afternoon wasn't a normal occasion. I hate to do that. And I was going through words of prayers to God in my head to keep this journey smooth and safe. Alhamdulilah, it was.

These days, I've been thinking about the reality of driving in Singapore. With fuel prices in a seemingly uncontrollable upsurge, exorbitant parking fees and the introduction of new ERP gantries, it all boils down to money talk. I'm starting to feel the pinch, hard. Besides, I can't even start to imagine what the cost would be like should something happen to the car. Come to think of it, it would be so so much affordable if one chooses public transport instead.

These reflections made me feel a tinge of slight regret having spent so much on getting that Class 3 license, albeit its many other advantages.
